The Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge!

By randy • December 15th, 2008

The other day I was contacted by one of our customers who also happens to be an avid runner and blogger at http://runtothefinish.blogspot.com/

Her name is Amanda and she has organized her 1st Annual Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge (or HBBC as she calls it for short) that started on Dec 8 and runs to Jan 4. The idea is to keep track of your daily exercise whether it’s running, working with weights, yoga, etc. to earn points during the holidays. It’s all on the honesty program, and there are lots of fun prizes to win at the end of the contest (most importantly your good health!).

She asked us if SurfShelf would be interested in helping sponsor the event, and of course the answer is a BIG YES. We love this kind of stuff! So, we’ll be providing a free SurfShelf as a prize to one of her contestants as well as a 10% discount and free shipping on the purchase of a new SurfShelf to everyone participating in the HBBC.

Here is the link directly to her post about HBBC: http://runtothefinish.blogspot.com/2008/12/holiday-bootie-buster-challenge.html

The HBBC started last Monday Dec 8 and runs through Jan 4. When we spoke to her a few days ago she had over 80 runners and active people participating across the country – congratulations Amanda!

So I thought it would be fun to interview Amanda for this post to learn more about the girl behind the challenge…

Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you started the “Run to Finish” blog.

A: Run To Finish has been an evolution over the past two years from a personal journal to a place where I can really talk with other runners, share my passion for the sport and find motivation when it does lag.

Q: How did you come up with the idea for the HBBC and what inspired you?

A: HBBC came about as a way to make sure that we all had a good reason not to use a Holiday Party or traveling or time off as a way to slack off. Honestly I am astounded by the numbers on how much people gain during the holiday season and that seems to lead everyone to the same New Year’s resolution…well I figure if we just stay healthy that’s one less thing we have to set as a resolution!

Q: If you could go for a run right now anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

A: Tuscany, Italy…the reasons are really endless, but mostly I have always had a love affair with the beauty of Italy, gellato and pizza. My husband and I traveled through other portions of Italy during our honeymoon and I desperately wanted to move there!

Q: If you could go for a run right now with anybody in the world, who would you go run with and why?

A: Part of me wants to say Fergie because she just seems like a lot of fun, but really I would love to run with Paula Radcliff to learn more about her training experience and what it’s like to be such a world class athlete.

Q: What advice can you give to our group to stay fit and have fun doing so this holiday season?

A: Working out can’t be a chore, it has to be a joyful experience if you are to truly stick with it. Find something that resonates with you whether it’s yoga, running or even just a nice calming walk.

Q: What do you want most for Christmas?

A: Right now, I’m really hoping that Santa will find a Garmin to put under my tree… although I would be happy to go without if he could give me a Boston Qualifying time!

Q: What is your favorite running fuel?

A: Cereal! My husband has commented that I should just strap a feedbag to myself so I could munch on it all day long.

Q: What are your running goals for 2009?

A: I would love to get an entry to the NYC Marathon, just to experience the excitement and joy of all those runners in one place. I am also working towards a Boston Qualifying time…so I’ll be looking for a good coach!

Congratulations and good luck to all of the 2008 HBBC participants! Here at SurfShelf we’ll be cheering you on as you make your way through this holiday season.

Is anyone participating in another holiday fitness program that you’d like to tell us about? Please let us know what you are doing to stay fit and healthy during the holidays.

SurfShelf would love to help out in any way we can to make your holidays as healthy and happy as possible!

Cheers,

Randy
