Overstuffed and Under the Weather
Hi everyone,
I have been sick for over two weeks now. I think I actually got two separate colds back-to-back. Obviously I have not been working out or even walking since I can barely talk without having a coughing fit. Needless to say, I was dreading getting on the scale. Oh yeah, and it was just Thanksgiving and Skye’s birthday (birthday cake)…
As of this morning I have gained back a little over 5 pounds BUT I think it’s really important to keep in mind that walking is a way of life. This is not just a weight loss challenge for myself. So I am not going to worry about it. I will just concentrate on getting healthy and then I will get right back up on that treadmill.
I’ve also noticed an increased desire for comfort food when I am sick; funny I never noticed that before now. hmmmm? And, of course I don’t feel like cooking anything so we have been ordering a lot of stuff which is probably not much better than fast food. I did start a “no fast food” plan several years ago after my first colonoscopy at age 33 when the dr.s’ removed 7 polyps! My Grandmother died from colon cancer so my dr. suggested I have an early colonoscopy to be safe, thank God they did. I am now a year past due for my next one but I have been busy trying to get pregnant (that is another story for another day), being pregnant and then breastfeeding for 11 months. I guess it’s time to put it on the books since I am now out of reasons not to do it. We do make an exception to the “no fast food” rule when we are on road trips but usually we go to In and Out, which I’m not sure I would qualify as fast food since they do make everything fresh… I also try to avoid all partially hydrogenated oils and over processed or “fake” food. I think a good rule of thumb is to try to eat food as close to its whole and natural state as possible. Don’t get me wrong, I am not totally strict about it. I love potato chips as much as the next guy. “Everything in moderation… even moderation”
